That is the entire reason lists like this exist, so it has to work for the person doing the buying rather than the person doing the wanting. On a shared board every wish has a claim button. One tap, and everyone else opening that link sees it’s taken.

No name is attached to a claim. Not shown to anyone, and not recorded at all — the board stores the moment something was claimed and nothing else. On a shared board the person shopping is the one keeping the secret, so there is nothing worth keeping. The same reasoning is why pressing Buy stores a reference that isn’t you either.

Claims are hidden from your side of your own board unless you turn them on. Everyone you shared with can see what’s taken; you can’t. It holds even if you open your own share link — the server checks who is asking before it decides what to send, so there is no back door into your own surprise.

Turn it on for the boards where it doesn’t matter. A kitchen list for a new flat is not a birthday.

Some lists aren’t one person’s. A wedding registry, a shared house, a group present, a trip everybody is chipping in for. Invite people with a link and they can add to the board rather than just read it, and every wish quietly records who put it there.

Take somebody off later and their wishes stay — they were gift ideas for the board, not their property to leave with. Rivori tells you when something like that happens rather than guessing on your behalf.
