How Rivori makes money

Boards are free. Sharing is free. Gift exchanges are free. When you press Buy on a wish, we send you to the shop that wish already pointed at — and if that shop runs an affiliate programme, our link tells them Rivori sent you. If you then buy something, they pay us a percentage. It costs you nothing, and the price you pay is the same either way.

• Change what you see. The commission never decides anything. We don’t reorder your board, we don’t swap in a different shop selling the same thing, and we don’t hide a wish because nobody pays us for it. A wish points where you pointed it.
• Put affiliate links in your email. Notification emails link back to your board, never straight to a shop.
• Tell the shop who you are. See below — this one is worth its own section.

When you follow a Buy link, the shop learns that somebody arrived from Rivori, and their own cookies and analytics apply from that point on — the same as if you had typed their address in yourself. We attach a random reference to the link so that when a commission arrives weeks later we can tell which wish earned it.

That reference is not you. It is a random string tied to one press of one button. It carries no name, no email address, no account and no board. We do not record who pressed Buy — not for the shop’s benefit and not for ours — because on a shared board the person doing the buying is usually the one being surprised, and that is the same reason we never record who marked a gift as bought.

We keep those click records for 180 days, which is long enough for a shop to report a commission against one, and then they are deleted.

Prices on Rivori are read from the shop’s own page, and they go out of date — a wishlist is a thing people sit on for months. Where we know when we last checked, the wish says so underneath the figure. Always check the price on the shop’s own page before you buy. The shop’s price is the real one.

The other ways to fund something like this are worse for you. Ads would mean putting other people’s products next to the ones you chose. Selling data would mean collecting far more of it than we do — see the Privacy Policy for how little that is. Charging for the basics would mean the person you shared a board with needs an account and a card to buy you a birthday present.

Affiliate commission is the one model where we get paid for the thing the product was already trying to do: help somebody find and buy the right gift. We may add a paid tier later for extras that cost us money to run — price alerts and the like — but what exists today stays free.
